Johnny T sings the smooth and sophisticated sounds that were the trademark of the fabulous
Platters. The Platters' hits still shine and stand out among the
greatest and most recognizable hits of the last half of the 1950s
.
The Platters unforgettable string of hits began in 1955 with "Only You," a song that almost wasn't even released.
When it was on July 3, 1995, "Only You" rose to #1 on the R&B charts and #5 Pop. It stayed on the charts 39 weeks!
The Platter's next release "The Great Pretender" was issued in November 1955 and became their second #1 R&B and first #1 Pop hit. This was the start of a streak of hits that included 1958's "Twilight Time," introduced on Dick Clark's
American Bandstand Saturday night TV show. "Twilight Time" rose to #1 on Pop and R&B charts in the spring of 1958.
"Smoke Gets In Your Eye's" was recorded in France while The Platters on tour. It was released on Mercury in October, 1958 and reached #1 Pop on June 19, 1959, for three weeks and #1 R&B.
Relive those great memories with Johnny.
